Summer always packs several Moss Rock Festival (MRF) reveals. Last week, Georgia’s Yvonne Miller and Stefan Hochhuber were announced as the Featured Artists of the 16th annual fall festival returning to the Hoover Met Complex November 6-7. Today we’re unveiling the actual art piece by this talented husband and wife artist duo which will not only be featured on the 2021 poster design, but also the larger festival marketing campaign.
Although there were many great works in Yvonne and Stefan’s portfolio to choose among for the poster, it was their large-scale nest collages in particular that caught our eye. And during a year when the festival is hatching a new logo design, the imagery of the nest seemed like a meaningful symbol and nod to MRF’s evolution to a new brand identity in 2021.
We love how they re-imagined the iconic bird’s nest too. Instead of weaving twigs, leaves, vines, pine needles, and more into these creations, Yvonne and Stefan crafted them out of hand cut vintage and recycled papers, fabrics, sheet music, thread, and other materials that they have collected traveling around the country to art shows, skillfully threading them into organic, beautiful, and textured matrixes of color, shapes, text, and imagery.
As we started the conversation about identifying a particular art piece to be showcased, Yvonne & Stefan quickly offered to create a nest especially for the Moss Rock Festival poster. We absolutely loved the idea, having worked successfully with past featured artists like Paul Wilm, Tracie Noles-Ross, and Chiharu Roach to create amazing works for MRF’s posters. So, we scoured our great archives of past designs to contribute elements to this paper nest’s weavings that are distinctly Moss Rock Festival. We think it turned out beautiful. They called the finished work “Lieben Nest”.
